Discovery and research

Evidence about what users need, gathered before budget is committed to building.

Hand placing a sticky note on a workshop wall of blank notes

We find out what users need before anything is built: recruiting the right participants, running interviews and observation, and synthesising findings into jobs to be done and opportunity areas. Insights go into a shared repository, so later teams build on them instead of repeating the research.

Interview recordings and notes are personal data under the UAE PDPL and the Saudi PDPL, so we collect explicit consent, store recordings in approved locations and delete them on an agreed schedule; sessions run in Arabic or English, as participants prefer.

What the work involves

  • Research plan and recruitment

Research questions, methods and a participant screener, with recruitment across the user groups that matter.

  • Interviews and synthesis

Interviews and field observation in Arabic and English, synthesised into needs, jobs to be done and opportunities.

  • Insight repository

Findings tagged and stored, with research operations that keep consent forms and recordings in order.

  • Decisions grounded in evidence

Every design choice traced back to research, testing or an agreed constraint.

  • Bilingual by default

Arabic and English designed together, with right-to-left layouts and content reviewed in both languages.

When research should come first

Research should come first when a product decision rests on assumptions nobody has checked with users.

  • The team disagrees about what users need most.
  • A previous launch had low uptake and nobody knows why.
  • Requirements come from internal stakeholders only.
