Platform implementation

Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric

We build Power BI and Microsoft Fabric around a small set of certified semantic models, so finance and operations read the same figures from one governed copy of the data in OneLake.

Most of the effort goes into the semantic models, the Fabric capacity plan and the move from scattered personal workspaces to a governed tenant. Fabric capacities are created in an Azure region you choose, and Multi-Geo can spread them across more than one, while the tenant's home region still holds some metadata, so residency is settled region by region. Arabic report pages are laid out right to left by the designer, and metadata translations let one semantic model show field names in Arabic and English.

Delivery follows the Fabric toolchain: lakehouses and warehouses in OneLake fed by Data Factory pipelines or Dataflows Gen2, semantic models in Direct Lake or Import mode, and deployment pipelines with Git integration that move content from development to production. Capacity is sized from measured use in the Capacity Metrics app rather than from guesswork.

How we implement Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Fabric

Design, build, integration and run-state support, with each decision recorded for your steering committee.

  • Blueprint and governance

Tenant settings, the workspace structure, capacity sizing and the list of certified semantic models are agreed with the head of data and the finance metric owners before the first workspace is created.

  • Retiring report sprawl

An inventory of existing reports and datasets, removal of duplicates and consolidation onto shared semantic models that carry endorsement labels.

  • Row-level security and sensitivity labels

Roles defined in the semantic model and tested with real accounts, plus Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels that stay with exported files.

  • Throttling and refresh windows

Background load and throttling reviewed each week, heavy refreshes moved outside working hours, and capacity resized when use changes.

  • Hypercare and managed support

Microsoft ships Power BI and Fabric updates every month, so we read each one, test whatever touches your semantic models, keep tenant settings under review, and watch capacity use and failed refreshes.

Where Power BI and Fabric fit best

This is the natural choice for organisations already on Microsoft 365 and Entra ID that want reporting, data engineering and governance under one licence and one admin portal.

  • Microsoft 365 and Entra ID already in use by most staff
  • A named owner for each headline metric
  • Budget approved for Fabric capacity or Premium Per User licences
  • Agreement on which existing workspaces will be retired
