Platform implementation

Hyperledger Besu

We run Hyperledger Besu as a permissioned Ethereum network with QBFT consensus, so members use standard Ethereum tooling while keeping control of who validates blocks.

Empty data centre aisle between rows of server racks

Besu brings Ethereum's contracts, wallets and developer tools into a private or consortium network. Typical candidates are tokenised deposits, bonds and real estate, and what may be issued, and to whom, depends on the asset and where it is issued: the CMA in Saudi Arabia, or the SCA, the DFSA or ADGM's FSRA in the UAE. That is why token design starts with legal advice.

We configure QBFT with at least four validators spread across members, so the network tolerates one failing, set node and account permissioning, and deploy Solidity contracts with the same Foundry or Hardhat tooling used on public Ethereum. Besu has deprecated its Tessera-based private transactions, so on new networks we keep confidential data on separate networks or off-chain, with only its hash on the ledger.

How we implement Hyperledger Besu

From blueprint to go-live and beyond: configuration, integration and support from one accountable team.

  • Blueprint and governance

We start by agreeing the validator set and how it changes, permissioning rules, gas settings and the approach to confidential data, recorded for the members' technical and risk leads to approve.

  • Validator voting procedure

A written process for adding or removing validators through QBFT votes, so membership changes never halt block production.

  • Public chain compatibility

Contracts and tooling kept compatible with public Ethereum, so assets could later move to a public network if the business decides.

  • Metrics and dashboards

Besu's Prometheus metrics in Grafana dashboards for block time, peer counts and transaction pool size.

  • Hypercare and managed support

Besu ships frequent releases with calendar version numbers, so we test each one on a staging network, then upgrade validators one at a time while watching block production.

Signs Besu is the better ledger

Pick Besu when members want Ethereum compatibility, Solidity skills and a possible route to public chains, rather than Fabric's channels or Corda's point-to-point model.

  • At least four organisations or sites able to run validators
  • Developers who write Solidity
  • Assets that may one day move to a public Ethereum network
  • A plan for confidential data that does not rely on on-chain privacy
