Platform implementation

Oracle Database

We design, upgrade and run Oracle Database estates on RAC, Data Guard and Multitenant, so core systems meet their recovery targets and stay on a supported release.

Empty data centre aisle between rows of server racks

Much of the Oracle work in the region is moving older releases and single instances onto Oracle Database 19c, the long-term support release, with pluggable databases and a tested standby. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure has regions in Jeddah, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and Exadata Cloud@Customer places Oracle-managed hardware in your own data centre, so data can stay in the country whether the database runs in the cloud or on site.

We use Oracle's own tooling: Zero Downtime Migration, or Data Pump and RMAN, for moves; AutoUpgrade for version upgrades; the Data Guard broker for switchover drills; and AWR and ASH reports to compare performance before and after. Hardening covers Transparent Data Encryption, unified auditing and Database Vault where separation of duties is required.

How we implement Oracle Database

Implementation, customisation, deployment and ongoing support, with governance your steering committee can follow.

  • Blueprint and governance

The target topology, recovery objectives for each system, patching windows and the licensing position are agreed with the DBA lead, application owners and procurement before anything is built.

  • Licence review

Processor and named-user licences, options and management packs in use checked against entitlement, before any move changes the count.

  • RAC and Exadata sizing

Capacity planning for RAC clusters or Exadata from measured production workload, not from vendor estimates.

  • Multitenant consolidation

Existing databases grouped as pluggable databases on fewer container databases, with resource plans so one application cannot starve another.

  • Hypercare and managed support

Oracle publishes Release Updates every quarter, so we test and apply them to a set calendar, rehearse Data Guard switchovers, and monitor backup success, alert logs, tablespace growth and wait events.

When Oracle Database remains the right base

Oracle is the sound choice where packaged applications such as Oracle E-Business Suite and many core banking and billing systems are certified on it, and where RAC-level availability is a hard requirement.

  • Applications certified on Oracle Database, with a known target release
  • A current view of Oracle licences and support contracts
  • Recovery objectives agreed for each system
  • Maintenance windows reserved for quarterly patching
