Platform implementation

AWS IoT Core

We design AWS IoT Core fleets with a certificate per device, rules that route each message to the right AWS service, and Greengrass where sites need local processing.

On AWS the questions are fleet-wide: how thousands of devices get identities, which MQTT topics each one may use and what happens when a certificate is revoked. AWS has regions in Bahrain and the UAE; we confirm which IoT services each region offers before the design is fixed, and plan for the TDRA IoT regulatory policy where connected products are offered in the UAE.

We build on AWS IoT Core's own pieces: fleet provisioning templates with claim certificates for first connection, IoT policies scoped to each thing's topics, Device Shadow for desired and reported state, and Rules Engine SQL that routes data to Kinesis, S3, DynamoDB or IoT SiteWise. Greengrass v2 components carry the edge logic, deployed from the same pipeline as the cloud code.

How we implement AWS IoT Core

Design, build, integration and run-state support, with each decision recorded for your steering committee.

  • Blueprint and governance

Topic naming, the certificate and provisioning model and the services each rule may write to are settled before any build, with approval from your cloud security lead and the product owner.

  • Over-the-air updates

AWS IoT Jobs for firmware and configuration updates, rolled out in waves with abort criteria if failures rise.

  • Fleet audit

Device Defender audits for over-permissive policies and certificates shared between devices, plus metrics that flag devices behaving unusually.

  • Searching the fleet

Fleet indexing on shadow and connectivity data, so support can find every offline device of one model in a single query.

  • Hypercare and managed support

AWS IoT Core is managed, so running it is about the fleet: certificate expiry and rotation, rule error actions, Device Defender findings, Greengrass component versions and account quotas as the fleet grows.

When AWS IoT Core is the right base

Choose it if you are building your own connected device or service, often already on AWS, and want building blocks rather than a packaged industrial application.

  • An existing AWS organisation with a landing zone
  • Device hardware that can store a private key securely
  • A firmware team able to adopt the AWS IoT Device SDK or plain MQTT over TLS
  • Expected fleet size and message rates for quota planning
