Platform implementation

PTC ThingWorx

We build ThingWorx applications on Kepware connectivity, so plant data reaches operators, engineers and maintenance teams as screens they use on every shift.

Most ThingWorx work starts on the plant floor: Kepware drivers reading PLCs over OPC UA and vendor protocols, and a Thing model that names each machine the way your engineers do. Factories in Saudi industrial cities and UAE free zones often keep ThingWorx on their own servers, which suits network zoning under NCA OTCC in Saudi Arabia and the TDRA IoT regulatory policy in the UAE.

Delivery follows ThingWorx's own building blocks. We define Thing Templates and Thing Shapes once, bind their properties to Kepware tags through the industrial connectivity layer, keep history in value streams and build Mashup Builder screens for each role. Where engineering data matters, we link assets to Windchill parts to extend the digital thread.

How we implement PTC ThingWorx

Implementation, customisation, deployment and ongoing support, with governance your steering committee can follow.

  • Blueprint and governance

Before configuration, the plant's engineering lead and OT security sign off the Thing model, tag naming, the Kepware channel layout and which data may leave the OT network.

  • Kepware channel design

Channels, devices and tag groups laid out per production line, with scan rates that do not overload older PLCs.

  • Screens for each role

Operator, supervisor and maintenance mashups with Arabic and English labels held in localisation tables, each showing only the assets that role covers.

  • Alerts that reach maintenance

Property alerts and subscriptions that open work orders in your maintenance system, such as SAP PM or Maximo, instead of piling up in an inbox.

  • Hypercare and managed support

After go-live we apply ThingWorx and Kepware updates on a test server first, watch value stream growth and subscription load, and keep the Thing model tidy as new lines are added.

Where ThingWorx earns its place

Manufacturers with mixed PLC brands, who want to build their own operator applications and keep the platform on their own sites, get the most from ThingWorx, especially where Windchill or Creo already hold engineering data.

  • A PLC and protocol inventory for the pilot line
  • An engineering owner for the Thing model and tag names
  • Servers or a private cloud inside the plant's security zones
  • Windchill or a parts list to link assets against
