Platform implementation

Blue Yonder Luminate

We implement Blue Yonder Luminate for retail and distribution planning, so demand forecasts, replenishment and warehouse and transport execution work from the same view of stock.

Demand planning, fulfilment and the link to warehouse and transport systems are the core of most Luminate projects. Gulf retail demand peaks in Ramadan and around the two Eids, which follow the Hijri calendar and move about eleven days earlier each year, so forecasts need an event calendar rather than last year's same week.

The Luminate platform runs on Microsoft Azure, and its planning applications use machine-learning forecasts that take in promotions, prices and events alongside sales history. We configure the forecasting hierarchy, tune the demand signals with planners, and connect replenishment outputs to Blue Yonder or third-party WMS and transport systems through the platform's APIs.

How we implement Blue Yonder Luminate

Implementation, customisation, deployment and ongoing support, with governance your steering committee can follow.

  • Blueprint and governance

Before the model is trained, the demand planning lead and the merchandising director approve the product, location and time hierarchies, the event calendar and the rules for overriding the forecast.

  • Event and promotion calendar

Ramadan, Eid, national days, White Friday and your own promotions captured as events, so the forecast learns their effect.

  • Store and DC replenishment

Replenishment parameters for stores and distribution centres, set by item and location with the inventory team.

  • Warehouse and transport hand-off

Orders and shipment plans passed to warehouse and transport systems, with feedback on what was picked and delivered.

  • Hypercare and managed support

Blue Yonder updates its cloud services on its own schedule; we check each release note, track forecast accuracy and bias by category every week, and retune parameters before the next peak season.

Where Blue Yonder pays off

Retailers, grocers and distributors with many stores or items gain most, because forecast quality at item and location level drives stock, waste and availability.

  • At least two years of clean sales history by item and location
  • A promotion calendar kept in one place
  • Warehouse and transport systems, each with an integration owner
  • Planners ready to manage exceptions rather than every line
